The Honda Odyssey 2017

2017 Honda Odyssey release date

The name Odyssey is associated with a plain minimalistic minivan with equally mundane features. That was then, not now. Honda has officially confirmed that a whole basket load of improvements has been done to the all new Honda Odyssey 2017. Also, spy shots of the vehicle’s camouflaged prototype have shown that even though Honda might stick to the usual five-door van form factor, there’s no doubt that the car will have elegant touches of modern aerodynamics.

Besides, the appearance of the prototype this year means that Honda has slated the release of the new Odyssey for either late next year or early 2017. And this further implies that 2017 will be a busy year for Honda as they already have a new Civic and hydrogen cell fuel vehicle on their plates. Additionally, word on the street is that Honda has plans for a new, refreshed Accord and an Odyssey in-house competitor- the Ridgeline pickup.

Even though Honda hasn’t released any official specs for the new Honda Odyssey 2017 ( for the obvious reasons), it’s very likely that they will adopt most of the features of the current 2017 Pilot Crossover. Which, of course, means that the all-new Odyssey will have a direct-injected 3.7-litre V6 engine. There’s also a strong possibility that the Pilot Crossover’s nine-speed automatic transmission will find its way to the Honda odyssey 2017. Also, that implies that a host of new active and passive safety features will spruce up, given that the Z-F Sourced engine will be limited to higher-trim levels.

When it launches, the 2017 Odyssey will up against some stiff competition from the Toyota Sienna generation, the Kia Sedona, the Chrysler Town & Country and the Mazda Mazda 6. All the above fall in the family minivan category. A category that is set to see some radical changes considering that Dodge is also planning to re-enter the market with an all-new caravan. On the other hand, Nissan has also announced plans for a revamped Quests that will sport a plug-in Hybrid powertrain. Not to mention the updated Sedona from Kia. All these changes can be attributed as a response to the current Odyssey’s slick looks and fun-to-drive aura, which fans are hoping that Honda will maintain in the next iteration.

The inside

Spy shots of the Honda’s camouflaged prototype have confirmed an array of Acura MDX fancy gadgets aboard the new Odyssey. Which raises some eyebrows, considering the MDX luxury line and Odyssey are like water and oil- they don’t mix. However, there might be plausible explanations for that, though. For starters, maybe Honda has a new trick up its sleeve and is working out a pleasant surprise for it’s otherwise frustrated Odyssey fans.

Secondly, this could be a subtle sign that Acura MDX’s top-of-the-line electronic driving aids have finally found their way to Odyssey’s backyard. And lastly, there is still a viable possibility that Honda’s next-gen interior prototype panels are not yet ready and an MDX’s panel was used instead.

Whichever the case, there’s no denying that the new Honda Odyssey 2017 will be one of the most revolutionary Odysseys to date.
