The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is the all new sixth generation car of the Camaro, which is touted as the emblem of the Camaro brand come 2017 when this brand will be celebrating 50 years. This sixth generation car takes a resemblance that is close to the fifth-generation car but is based on a purely different platform. Chevrolet has had an unusual thinking which is sound as its outgoing look stretches way back to 1967 when it was launched and has enjoyed a huge success.

This new Camaro has been built on the GM’s component set, Alpha, which was seen first in the CTS and Cadillac ATS. The Alpha component is modern, stiff and light but GM has altered over 70% of the component parts for the Camaro. These are the suspension pieces that have been made a bit longer thereby increasing its track by 1.1 to around 2.0 inches compared to the CTS. The suspension of the sixth generation 2017 Chevrolet Camaro will weigh 26 pounds less than the weight of the fifth-generation’s suspension.

The new Camaro will boast of a new 3.6 liter, 60 degree V-6 which is lighter than its predecessor’s despite having a displacement that is larger by 76-cubic-centimeter. It also boasts of cylinder deactivation, improved NVH and increased output. Both the Horsepower and Torque have also significantly increased by 12 for horsepower to 335 and by 6 for torque rising to 284. It will also boast of a base engine that is a four-cylinder.

Chevrolet has taken a similar path to that taken by FORD in their Ford Mustang where they refined its design rather than overhauling the whole design. The new sixth-generation has thus not changed so much in terms of design from its predecessor. However, it seems to be more muscular and cleaner. It still retains the angered face synonymous with the Camaro although its grille openings appear sharper and have been integrated better with its headlights. Other notable changes are like the rear window appearing flatter and the central depression on its roof appears more pronounced.

On the lower front corners, there are some air intakes that are smaller and placed just below its running lights. They channel the air outside through the fender wells, an aspect that greatly reduces the aerodynamic drag. The edge of the roof has been laser brazed creating a joint that is neater.

Interior Design

The interior has a welcoming effect with its handsome dashboard coming with an eight-inches LCD screen with some controls that are neatly integrated. It also has a mode selector that is used for adjusting several parameters which changes the experience of driving this car. It has bright rings that surround the air vents that are centrally placed to adjust the settings for temperature. The cup holders in this model have been placed to the right of the shifter, making it hard for the holder to meet the elbow of the driver. The car seats boast of a vertical travel that is great which provides tall drivers with better headroom.

When driving the new 2017 Chevrolet Camaro, the manual gears shift as cleanly as the automatic ones. The cars come with a dual-mode exhaust that will be operated by motors that are electric rather than the vacuum actuators in the past.
